THE PROJECT: El Guapo’s Mexican Restaurant
and Rooftop Cantina
OUR MISSION:
Design a hip new Mexican Restaurant & Bar
with a view
THE PLAN:
The adaptive reuse of a two story brick building in Tulsa’s emerging Blue Dome District. The goal was to maintain the character of the original structure as much as possible and use it to complement the owner’s vision for the restaurant’s interiors. This was achieved by preserving the brick on both the interior and exterior walls, the original flooring, and the original façade including portions of the original worn stucco.
Underneath the exterior of the original 1920’s brick building, lies literally tons of steel. The new “skeleton” was added to support Tulsa’s first and only open air Rooftop Cantina. Allowing for utilization of normally wasted space and fantastic downtown views, the new rooftop hangout finally brings to Tulsa what so many of us have enjoyed in other cities around the world. It’s just cool. Viva El Guapo’s!
GREEN/SUSTAINABLE ELEMENTS:
Reuse of existing building
Aluminum fire stair
Cool roof system
